Community Biogas Plants
  • The National programme on Community, Institutional and Night Soil-based Biogas Plants aims at large-scale biogas systems based on cow dung and human waste. Over 3,075 such systems have been installed
  • This programme caters to the needs of village communities and institutions
  • The objectives of the programme are to:
  • recycle organic wastes to harness fuel-gas at community and institutional levels for various usages, including generation of motive power and electricity
  • provide benefits of biogas technology to weaker sections of the society
  • recycle human waste through linking of community and institutional toilets with biogas plants for improving sanitation
  • Schemes for setting up of large-sized biogas plants linked to community toilet blocks exist. The programme is implemented by SNDs, SNAs, KVIC and Sulabh International, New Delhi
  • Incentives for setting up biogas plants and project contingencies are available for state nodal departments and agencies, including KVIC and NGOs
