Tata Power for Solar Energy Project
Tata Power is likely to foray into Solar Energy based power generation. It is understood very soon the State Government of Maharashtra is expected to announce more incentives for renewable energy based generation. These would be in addition to the sales tax exemption for six years
The project will be partly funded by Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA). According to the Tata Power officials, there will be no problem in selling power as the State Government is already planning to allow power units to sell their power to the Grid. The Officials say the project will be a shopw case project, the first of several other in the country.
The price of Solar Power has been falling over the last decade, and while it is still expensive than conventional power, it will be much cheaper in a decade. Tata BP Solar, a JV of Tata & BPO has undertaken supply and installation of many specialised projects. These include 110 kW solar power plant supplied and installed for Tata Electric Companies in 1997. A 36.3 kW grid interactive solar power plant supplied and installed in Auroville, a 100 kW power plant supplied and installed for Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam, 1998. In addition to this they have installed 50,000 SPV systems for rural telecom, several hundred solar powered LED signsl lights for Railways. Its products are also being exported to the US, EU, Africa and the Gulf regions.
Tata BP Solar India Ltd. based in Karnataka produces complete integrated solar energy solutions. It also manufactures solar cells, solar modules and solar panels which have a wide variety of applications.
