The controversy and the crisis over the use of CNG in Delhi Public Transport Vehicles continued even as vehicles line up for more than 12 hours to fill CNG. The latest is from the Centre, which has warned that growing demand for CNG in the public transport vehicles in the Capital could affect its supply to core sectors of Power and Fertilisers
In an affidavit to the Supreme Court, the Centre has said if the the allocation for Delhi's transport sector is to be ahead of the growing demand as desired by the environment pollution (prevention and control) authority, then more cuts in the allocations made to other consumers including the power and fertilizer sectors would have to be effected. This, in turn, will have an adverse impact on these sectors as well as industrial and agricultural sectors
Reportedly, while about 220,000 kg of CNG is currently available in the city estimates are that about 440,000 kg are needed to meet the demand.
