NHPC to add over 30000 MW Power
The NHPC has drawn a plan to add over 30,000 mw power by the end of the 12th plan to meet power requirements of the country.
* 5,400 mw power would be added during 10th plan.
* 11,500 mw during 11th plan.
* 13,500 mw during 12th plan.
* NHPC had also prepared a plan to ensure that approvals were completed during three months & also a mechanism to monitor the progress of work quarterly.
* The work on all the three phases of the 2,051 mw Parvati Hydel project in Kullu district would commence simultaneously & work was proceeding 18months ahead of schedule & was expected to be completed in 2003.
* Rs 280 crore had been set apart for the Parvati project this year & the difficult Uri project had been commissioned 11 months in advance.
* Big dam power projects were best suited to India as bigger reservoirs would mean more power generation but the environmentalists and supporters of thermal powers were describing these as "threat to environment" and unfortunately the non-governmental organisations which were getting funds had fallen prey to this false propaganda.
