MNES: India is the only country in the world to have a separate Ministry for Non-conventional Energy Sources (MNES). It focuses on the specific problems of non-conventional sources of energy, especially in the rural and remote areas. It covers a wide range of areas in the field of renewable energy such as biogas, improved cooking stoves, biomass, solar energy, wind energy, small hydro power, energy from wastes and other new emerging technologies with special areas of focus being accelerating commercialization of various technologies in the renewable energy sector.
