And quiet flows the Godavari
A Rural Electrification Picture Story

There were no sounds except the 'phat - phat' of the ferry starting up on the other side of the river. Across the vast expanse, the ferry was hardly visible but its sound was very audible. I took solace in the fact that if so many people were risking their lives including the ferryman it should indeed be safe. As if I had a choice, having come this far on the Rural Electrification project, there was no going back.

So in our quest to reach out to villages that cannot possibly be electrified by the grid we set out on this ferry on the Godavari. Myself, Rao and Somu were targeting to visit seven villages that the government was finding difficult to electrify.

Soon in the midst of the drifting scenic beauty, we were settled on the roof. Godavari flowed rapidly and quietly making its way through the mountains and dense forests. Hydrophobia of floods receded as we munched biscuits over small cups of tea, even as we passed trees half submerged in the river.
