And quiet flows the Godavari A Rural Electrification Picture Story
The village is equipped with two solar street lights, which were installed during January 2002. Both these systems are working efficiently. Earlier, in 1986 also two solar street lights were installed in this village. These were spoiled during 1986 floods. Presently one of the villagers is using the modules of those systems for lighting in his house. A 1KW Solar Photovoltaic Water Pumping System was installed in this village during 1998. The villagers were using this system for pumping drinking water from the flowing river to the bank. The system is supplied to this village by ITDA (Integrated Tribal Development Agency). The pump worked for nearly 2 years but has been idle now due to flaw in the submersible pump.
“Biomass is the only solution but we have to work out some systems”, says Rao.The village has good access to the forest. A 2 to 5KW biomass based system can be operated and can provide sufficient power to these villagers. Villagers can collect twigs and firewood from the nearest forest and can maintain this plant. Rao & Somu start computing electricity requirements of the village as we board the ferry-roof again.
